Wittgenstein, the problem of time and the mystical tradition

El presente trabajo, es un intento de relacionar el aforismo 6.4311 del Tractatus (especialmente la distinción entre tiempo y eternidad), con el tratamiento que ha dado al problema del tiempo la tradición mística, en especial el que le han dado Plotino y San Agustín. Para ral efecto, se expondrá la concepción plotiniana de eternidad junto con algunas consideraciones acerca de por qué el tiempo no puede ser considerado como medida del movimiento. Luego se mostrará el argumento agustiniano que concluye que el tiempo no puede ser considerado como independiente del alma, lo que ligará el problema del tiempo al problema de la unidad y la multiplicidad (al problema del alma). Finalmente se mostrará el papel que juega el presente en la tradición mística como puente entre lo temporal y lo eterno (entre lo múltiple y lo uno). En esta última parte se introducirán las consideraciones wittgeinstenianas al respecto, junto con algunas consideraciones epicúreas sobre la muerte.

The present work is an attempt to relate the aphorism 6.4311 of the Tractatus (especially the distinction between time and eternity), with the treatment that the mystical tradition has given to the problem of time, especially the one given by Plotinus and Saint Augustine. For this purpose, the Plotinian conception of eternity will be exposed along with some considerations about why time cannot be considered as a measure of movement. Then the Augustinian argument will be shown, which concludes that time cannot be considered independent of the soul, which will link the problem of time to the problem of unity and multiplicity (to the problem of the soul). Finally, the role played by the present in the mystical tradition as a bridge between the temporal and the eternal (between the multiple and the one) will be shown. In this last part, Wittgenstein's considerations in this regard will be introduced, together with some Epicurean considerations about death.
