Parenting assessments has limitations, such as the predominant adoption of the maternal perspective. The objective of this study was to adapt the Brazilian version of the Inventory of Father Involvement (IFI-BR-27) for use with fathers and mothers (with children aged 2 to 10 years), in addition to improving the assessment of the financial support dimension and to including the assessment of the openness to the world function. Following international guidelines, the following stages were carried out: adaptation and construction of items (with the participation of two researchers), evaluation by judges (with the participation of six experts) and pilot study (with the participation of nine fathers and mothers). The results indicated the suitability of the new version of the IFI-BR-27 (called, Inventory of Father and Mother Involvement) for assessing parental involvement, in a multidimensional, updated, and inclusive way (from maternal and paternal perspectives). Additional psychometric studies are needed to confirm the validity of the new instrument.

La evaluación parental tiene sus limitaciones, como la adopción predominante de la perspectiva maternal. El objetivo de este estudio fue adaptar la versión brasileña del Inventory of Father Involvement (IFI-BR-27) para padres y madres (con niños de 2 a 10 años), además de mejorar la evaluación de la dimensión de provisión e incluir la evaluación de la función de apertura al mundo. Siguiendo lineamientos internacionales, se realizaron las siguientes etapas: adaptación y construcción de ítems (con la participación de dos investigadores), evaluación por jueces (con la participación de seis expertos) y estudio piloto (con la participación de nueve padres y madres). Los resultados indicaron la idoneidad de la nueva versión del IFI-BR-27 (llamada Inventory of Father and Mother Involvement) para evaluar el envolvimiento parental, de manera multidimensional, actualizada e inclusiva (de las perspectivas materna y paterna). Se necesitan estudios psicométricos adicionales para confirmar la validez de la nueva medida.
