As the dominant mode of urban mobility worldwide, private cars continue to create significant social and spatial injustice, even in the Netherlands, where they have historically been allocated less space than in other places. Objective: This study aims to expand our understanding of social support for traffic violence reduction measures by (1) actively engaging diverse groups beyond (potential) car users and (2) using community-based frameworks and methodologies that are sensitive to this distinction. Methodology: An online survey was completed by 404 respondents in the Netherlands. Results: 93% agreed or strongly agreed that the car-restricted streetscape shown would be more enjoyable for people on it, while 85% agreed or strongly agreed that it would be safer for people on it. Discussion: By framing respondents not merely as individuals, consumers, or drivers but as community members, the study elicited responses that shift the focus from the individual in the speeding car or the individual injured by that car to a community affected by the presence and speed of vehicles, emphasizing collective needs and interests.
