El pasado 5 de mayo de 2022 el Sinn Fein logró alcanzar el 29% de los votos y 27 escaños en la Asamblea de Irlanda del Norte consiguiendo que, por primera vez en la historia, un partido nacionalista fuese la primera fuerza en votos y en escaños. El artículo se plantea si la victoria del Sinn Fein es realmente una victoria del nacionalismo que podría abrir un cambio en el estatus político de Irlanda del Norte, para ello estudia el nacionalismo político irlandés y las instituciones regionales surgidas tras los Acuerdos de Paz del Viernes Santo y analiza la representación política del nacionalismo en tres dimensiones, municipal, regional y estatal, con la finalidad de determinar si la victoria obtenida el 5 de mayo de 2022 es realmente la constatación de la existencia de una mayoría nacionalista en las instituciones.
On May 5, 2022, Sinn Fein managed to reach 29% of the votes and 27 seats in the Northern Ireland Assembly, achieving that, for the first time in history, a nationalist party was the first force in votes and seats. . The article considers whether the victory of Sinn Fein is really a victory of nationalism that could open a change in the political status of Northern Ireland, for this it studies the Irish political nationalism and the regional institutions that emerged after the Peace Agreements of Good Friday. and analyzes the political representation of nationalism in three dimensions, municipal, regional and state, in order to determine if the victory obtained on May 5, 2022 is really the verification of the existence of a nationalist majority in the institutions.
