El procesamiento de la oración relativa en español: interferencias del factor «distancia» en el uso del pronombre reasuntivo

The Processing of the Relative Clause in Spanish: Interferences of the “Distance” Factor in the Use of the Resumptive Pronoun

Este estudio investiga el uso del reasuntivo en la relativa restrictiva y tiene el objetivo deverificar la influencia del factor «distancia» en la movilización de esa marca formal. Desde la perspectiva teórica emergentista, la distancia se refiere al mayor coste de la memoria de trabajo en la resolución de la «dependencia relleno-vacío», teniendo como parámetro para el cálculo la distancia entre el núcleo y el vacío léxico dentro de la relativa. Se investiga la hipótesis de que cuanto mayor la distancia entre el núcleo y el vacío, mayor el grado de dificultad de procesamiento de la relativa. Los datos, seleccionados del proyecto Preseea (Proyecto para el Estudio Sociolingüístico del Español de España y de América), comprenden seis variedades del español y se analizan cuantitativa y cualitativamente. El análisis comprueba que la distancia motiva el uso del reasuntivo, que funciona como un «facilitador» en el proceso de comprensión, disminuyendo el coste para la memoria de trabajo.

The study inquires into the use of the resumptive pronoun in the restrictive relative clause, in order to verify the influence of the “distance” factor in the mobilization of this formal marker. From the theoretical perspective of emergentism, distance refers to the greater cost on working memory involved in resolving the «filler-gap dependency», taking the distance between the nucleus and the lexical gap within the relative clause as a parameter. The article examines the hypothesis that the greater the distance between nucleus and gap, the greater the degree of difficulty in processing the relative clause. The data, which includes six varieties of Spanish and was selected from the Preseea (Project for the Sociolinguistic Study of Spanish from Spain and America) project, was analyzed both quantitative and qualitatively. The analysis shows that distance triggers the use of the resumptive pronoun, which functions as a “facilitator” in the process of understanding, thus reducing the cost on working memory.

Este estudo analisa o uso do pronome cópia na relativa restritiva e tem o objetivo de verificar a influência do fator «distância» na mobilização dessa marca formal. A partir da perspectiva teórica emergentista, a distância refere-se ao maior gasto da memória de trabalho na resolução da «dependência conteúdo-vazio», tendo como parâmetro para o cálculo a distância entre o núcleo e o vazio léxico dentro da relativa. Averigua-se a hipótese de que quanto maior a distância entre o núcleo e o vazio, maior o grau de dificuldade de processamento da relativa. Os dados, selecionados do projeto Preseea (Projeto para o Estudo Sociolinguístico do Espanhol da Espanha e da América), compreendem seis variedades do espanhol e são analisados quantitativa e qualitativamente. A análise comprova que a distância motiva o uso do reasuntivo, que funciona como um «facilitador» no processo de compreensão, diminuindo o gasto de memória de trabalho.
