From Global Injustice to Degrowth: A Post-Fossil and Globally Just Vision for Societies in the Global North

¿Por qué en el debate crítico sobre el desarrollo y el período posterior al desarrollo se suele hablar sólo de los países del Sur global? ¿Y qué significaría dirigir también la perspectiva posdesarrollo a los países del Norte global? Estas cuestiones están en el origen del debate sobre el decrecimiento desarrollado desde Francia a partir de la década de 2000. Este artículo ofrece una visión general del actual debate sobre el decrecimiento, centrándose en la crítica Sur-Norte y las propuestas de cambio de sistema. Basándose en la sistematización de las estrategias de transformación del sociólogo e investigador utópico Erik Olin Wright, este artículo analiza la medida en la que el decrecimiento es deseable, factible y alcanzable.
Why is it that, in the critical debate on development and post-development, one often speaks mainly of the countries of the global South? What would it mean to direct the post-development perspective towards countries of the global North as well? These questions were at the origin of the debate on degrowth, which first developed in France in the 2000s. This article provides an overview of the current debate on degrowth, focusing on South-North critiques and proposals for system change. Based on the systematisation of transformation strategies by sociologist and utopian researcher Erik Olin Wright, the article analyses the extent to which degrowth is desirable, viable and achievable.
