This issue includes many of the contributions presented in the symposium by invited guests from three continents and is organized along four intrinsic topics to the relationship between the environmental conflicts and the alternatives to the hegemonic models of current development. These axes not only organize the papers in this issue but also highlight the specificities where academia and practice assume the commitment to a change of paradigms. They deal with environmental epistemologies, environmental education, development seen from different critical perspectives and approaches to alternatives to development.
