El objetivo del trabajo es contribuir a las discusiones metateóricas y metodológicas que se están desarrollando en el contexto del giro político de la ética animal. Más concretamente, busca responder a la objeción de Robert Garner en contra de la idea de que el constructivismo rawlsiano es un marco interesante para desarrollar la teoría política animal. Sostengo, específicamente, que sus críticas se basan en un entendimiento inadecuado del constructivismo y de su relación con los argumentos contractualistas, de modo que, cuando se dilucida la verdadera naturaleza de esta posición, la objeción pierde toda su fuerza.
The aim of this work is to contribute to the meta-theoretical and methodological discussions that are taking place in the context of the political turn of animal ethics. More precisely, it seeks to answer Robert Garner’s objection to the idea that Rawlsian constructivism is an interesting framework to develop animal political theory. I sustain, specifically, that his critiques are based on an inadequate understanding of constructivism and its relationship to contractual arguments. By elucidating the true nature of this position, the objection loses all of its strength.
