La babesia humana se ha considerado como la zoonosis más reciente en zonas tropicales y subtropicales del mundo. El frotis sanguíneo muestra predominantemente formas anilladas
intraeritrocíticas tan parecidas a las del Plasmodíum falcíparum que muchos casos se han confundido inicialmente con malaria y han sido tratdos como tales. Los pacientes infectados con Babesia mícroti generalmente exhiben una presentación gradual de fiebre, fríos, sudoración, mialgia, anemia hemolítica, ictericia, falla renal y muerte. Por carecer de antígeno de Babesia mícrotí, se inocularon intraperitonealmente 112 hamster esplenectomizados,
con sangre humana de pacientes positivos a infección por [...]
