One of the strategies developed to improve the functional conditions of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) of broilers is the use of alternative nutritional and functional additives. Among these alternatives, it has been recently evaluated the supplementation of yeasts in poultry feeding systems. In this context, the objective of this study was to evaluate the potential functional and nutritional role of 3 different strains of isolated yeasts from native fruits of Colombian ecosystems in males broiler and its effects on the variations of intestinal villus morphometry and products of the cecal microflora. The chicks were distributed at random in 6 treatments: 0,5% of the diet of 3 different native yeasts, two controls with commercial yeasts (Levapan® dry presentation and AB vista®) and a control group without yeast. They were carried out comparisons of the means with a level of significance of P <0,05 by SAS program version 9. Significant differences were observed in favor of the chickens that received the diets with yeasts in terms of their cecal contents of volatile fatty acids (propionic and isobutyric) at 8 and 22 days of age (0,13 mmol/ml and 0,03 mmol/ml and 0,64 mmol/ml and 0,08 mmol/ml, respectively) (P<0,05). At 22 days of age, the control group showed significant differences with supplemented groups of yeasts (P<0,05). Crypts of duodenum wered deeper in the control group compared with supplemented groups and the height of villus/deep of the crypt ratio were also smaller in yeyuno of the control group. In summary, the results of this study showed that yeasts had a relevant functional properties for their use as alternative additive in the feeding systems of broilers.
