We conduct a comparative simulation study of the effects of the information level on warranties costs and processes distributions. In cases where processes failure/repair are observed under the black-box (statistical) approach and under the physical approach, we use a coherent system of independent and identically distributed (iid) components in a structure k-out-of -n. Warranty policies considered correspond to the Free - Replacement Warranty (FRW) policy, with renewal, and the Pro-Rata Warranty (PRW) policy. The failure mode studied has the general Block et al. (1985) failure model. We compared costs and processes distributions under the two approaches using statistical tests for distributions equality. We found signicant statistical differences.
