A great quantity of anticancer potential substances have been obtained from marine sponges. In this study was performed the evaluation of the cytotoxic activity of fractions from the Colombian Caribbean marine sponge Topsentia ophiraphidites in the cell lines Jurkat and CHO, through MTT assay and tripan blue staining. Only the fraction number four (T4) had cytotoxic activity, with a median inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 33 µg/mL for Jurkat cells and 58 µg/mL for CHO cells. Future trials of genotoxicity and effects on cell cycle could be perform with fraction T4.
