The Entomological Museum "Francisco Luis Gallego"(MEFLG) at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Medellín headquarters, began in 1937 with an agricultural importance insect collection. Currently, the museum has a wide collection which includes several insect orders with economic, medical, forensic and ecological relevance. The museum mission is to lead research activities and disseminate knowledge obtained in biological collections studies. In order to make a diagnosis of the aquatic beetle collection in MEFLG and to compare the collection health index (CHI), a curation process was carried out. 431 dry-preserved specimens and 170 liquid-preserved specimens were evaluated. Before the curation process, the CHI was low (32.9%) and the collection management priorities and the collection profile showed a high value in level two. After the curation process and taxonomic revision, the CHI improved and showed high value at level three since the material is accessible to researchers.
