Hybrid Simulation is a technology that is changing rapidly and which consists of a combination of computer simulations (which usually is a finite element model) and laboratory tests of two complementary systems. This is a cost effective alternative to physical testing of the whole system, and allows better comprehension of complex coupled systems.
This paper describes the implementation of a hybrid prototype of active power filter, where the source system and load is implemented as real-time simulation, and the system of static power converter that acts as APF is implemented in physical hardware. In addition it confirm the hybrid simulation results with the implementation of the simulation on
Matlab Simulink of the same system implemented in the analysis and design stage of APF. This mode of experimentation was performed to fill the hardware limitations in the implementation of an APF
