Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) are characterized by better control of the parameters of a transmission line and provide greater power transfer capacity. The Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is one of the most complete and flexible FACTS devices, since it allows controlling all parameters in a transmission line. This paper presents the impact of UPFC, as well as the modifications that the load flow has with the implementation of this one. An analysis of the mitigation of power losses of the system is made, as well as the improvement that is obtained of the load capacity for the transfer of power in a transmission line and the improvement in the voltage profile. The validation of the operation of the UPFC is performed in an IEEE 14- nodes system through simulation. Finally, the conclusions are presented.
