This paper analyzes the international status of sustainable buildings, identifying different definitions referring to Zero Energy Buildings - ZEB and derivations thereof such as Ultra Low Energy Buildings - LEB, Nearly Zero Energy Buildings - nZEB, Net Zero Energy Buildings - NZEB and Positive Energy Buildings - PEB. In addition, this paper describes currently exists in Colombia on green buildings, showing some regulations and documents related to saving in energy consumption and construction of green buildings. Finally, a case study of a university campus is proposed where scenarios are proposed to reduce energy consumption in buildings and achieve ZEB buildings. To do this, the energy dimensioning of the campus consumption is carried out, the dimensioning of photovoltaic solar systems and the design of intelligent networks is proposed as data acquisition systems through Building Management System - BMS or Building Automation System when the building has control tasks or automation.
