Control techniques for power quality enhancement are still an issue for the operation of a reliable microgrid. Many control strategies are focused on keeping acceptable and secure levels of voltages and reactive power-sharing, however, voltage distortion, current distortion, unbalance and other power quality phenomena like resonance can cause undesirable operation states particularly on islanded microgrids. This paper reviews the most common practices, control techniques, and mitigation mechanisms for power quality enhancement in islanded microgrids, aimed at identifying possible problems for reliable operation of such systems.
