APPLICATION OF ONLINE UPS (UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLY) FOR IMPROVEMENT OF POWER QUALITY

Power Quality Problem has become a major issue among the Large Power Customers as it involves lost of cost in many industries. Many research are carried out to solve this problem using various treatment devices. Uninterruptible Power Supply(UPS) has been extensively applied in the Europe. This paper aims to investigate the capability in reducing voltage crest factor (VCF) towards a safe calculated rate of 1.414. This study is a comparison of different case studies carried out by the National Electrical Board of Malaysia at fault reported locations in the 11kV distribution level. Results shows that UPS has the capability to reduce the crest factor from a range of 1.302 . 1.498 which is which fall within the safe calculated VCF rated at 1.414. As a conclusion, online UPS can be one of the new approach to solve power quality problems
