En esta ocasión, presentamos este número especial, que se fundamenta en la quinta versión del Congreso Macrolatinos@ realizado en Panamá en octubre de 2021, y que ha sido acogido amablemente por la Revista Acta Biológica Colombiana, del Departamento de Biología de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia. De esta manera, esta edición recopila algunas de las investigaciones de los miembros de la red Macrolatinos@. Son en total 17 trabajos científicos (13 artículos y 4 notas breves), en los que participaron autores de Colombia, México, Perú, Puerto Rico y El Salvador. En dichos trabajos los investigadores destacan la importancia de conocer la biodiversidad acuática, para conservar y gestionar adecuadamente los recursos naturales y servicios ecosistémicos que proveen nuestros ambientes dulceacuícolas

On this occasion, we present this special issue, which is based on the fifth version of the Macrolatinos@ Congress held in Panama in October 2021, and which has been kindly hosted by the Revista Acta Biológica Colombiana, of the Biology Department of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Thus, this edition compiles some of the research of the members of the Macrolatinos@ network. There are a total of 17 scientific papers (13 articles and 4 short notes), in which authors from Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico and El Salvador participated. In these papers, the researchers highlight the importance of understanding aquatic biodiversity in order to conserve and adequately manage the natural resources and ecosystem services provided by our freshwater environments.
