Agroecology offers a way to address the current environmental, social, and economic crises; however, some of the challenges it faces are commercial in nature and could be addressed through the value-creation approach provided by marketing. Therefore, an exploratory and descriptive study was conducted to characterize the marketing strategies for agroecological foods implemented by 75 marketers in Antioquia, Colombia, through interviews and direct observation. The strategies were analyzed using the 4P marketing framework, complemented by environmental analysis, considering the particularities of agroecology. Marketing communication (promotion) was found to be the predominant dimension, with a strong orientation toward sharing ancestral knowledge, in addition to maintaining frequent and personalized relationships with consumers. With regard to products, their differentiating attributes stand out, and the offer is diverse because of their nature. Despite the added value of these products, prices are defined according to costs and market conditions, resulting in consumer prices similar to those of conventional products. In terms of distribution (place), which is commonly managed directly, preservation measures and delivery services stand out. There is limited implementation of loyalty programs, advertising, and digital marketing; labeling is also rarely used, and psychological pricing strategies are not applied. A strategic marketing role is needed to implement actions aimed at social awareness while ensuring profitability and motivating the agroecological transition.
