Este estudio promueve la comprensión del fenómeno de respuesta de las mujeres ante los síntomas de Síndrome Coronario Agudo, en cuanto que son el tiempo de demora y las acciones a seguir los factores que influyen sobre la gravedad del síndrome.
This article presents the results of research Responses of women from the Symptoms of Acute Coronary Syndrome based on the Conceptual Model of Symptom Management. It is a descriptive cross-sectional quantitative study. It describes the response actions of women and their delay time when searching for help as they present symptoms suggestive of acute coronary syndrome. The sample included 80 women with confirmed diagnosis who were hospitalized in two institutions of Bucaramanga (Colombia), during the months of October 2011 to April 2012. The information was obtained using the response instrument domain on the Symptom Experience in Women with acute coronary syndrome and socio-demographic format. We found that 43.8% of women took more than six hours to decide whether to go to the emergency room after symptom onset, 18% ignores symptoms, 15% takes home remedies, 21.2% drinks water, 12.5% breathes deeply, 35% hopes for the symptoms to disappear and 12.5% calls an ambulance.
This study furthers the understanding about phenomenon of women's response, with symptoms of acute coronary syndrome, with the delay time and the actions to be the factors that influence the severity of the syndrome.
