The following article aims to explain how hegemonic projects have worked in the archipelago of San Andrés, Providence and St. Catherine, and shows how this particular area offers inputs to analyze the autonomy and self-determination in the South Caribbean. The theoretical contributions and concepts of hegemony, agent structure and de-colonialization, are relevant and useful to refresh ways of analysis of economic and cultural dependence of the islanders. Both elements pose challenges to pursue a regional autonomy process in these islands.
