Education inside creole english speaking contexts in the Caribbean. A reflection on the relationship between autonomy, creole and european language

En este artículo, se realiza una reflexión sobre la situación educativa del Caribe, específicamente en relación con las lenguas criollas de base léxica inglesa habladas en esta región. Se sostiene que el grado de convergencia y divergencia entre el vernáculo y la lengua europea juega un rol central. Se parte de un ejercicio investigativo de corte cualitativo cuyo objetivo fue construir una caracterización de las lenguas criollas de base léxica inglesa en el Caribe. Para empezar, se describen algunos elementos teóricos sobre la educación bilingüe y, posteriormente, se presenta la reflexión y se finaliza con algunas conclusiones.

In this article, a reflection on the state of education in the Caribbean, specifically in relation to Englishbased spoken creoles in this region, is done. It is argued that the degree of convergence and divergence between the vernacular and European language plays a central role. Article departs from a qualitative research whose objective was to build a characterization of the English-based spoken creoles in the Caribbean. At the beginning, some theoretical elements on bilingual education are described, the reflection is then presented and some conclusions are shown at the end.
