Nenhum governo da Nova República havia iniciado em cenário tão delicado. Após vencer eleição com a menor diferença de votos da história, Lula sofreu uma tentativa de golpe menos de uma semana após tomar posse. Contou, então, com a atuação decisiva do Supremo Tribunal Federal para punir os responsáveis e pacificar a relação com as Forças Armadas. Só que o cerco antidemocrático, que marcou o início da gestão Lula, incluía também a pressão da burguesia vocalizada pela grande mídia. Em oito meses, o governo conseguiu pacificar a relação com o mercado através de resultados econômicos positivos e da habilidade do ministro da Fazenda Fernando Haddad, que atingiu consenso na aprovação da reforma tributária. Mas mesmo diante destas importantes vitórias, é possível afirmar que o cerco antidemocrático ao governo Lula foi superado? Quais perigos continuam no caminho da integração sul-americana em um cenário político desafiador e da construção de hegemonia progressista em um país ainda dividido? Este artigo propõe reflexões iniciais sobre essas questões decisivas para o futuro da democracia no Brasil.

After winning the election with the smallest difference in votes in history, Lula suffered a coup attempt less than a week after taking office. He then counted on the decisive action of the Federal Supreme Court, to punish those responsible and pacify the relationship with the Armed Forces, but the anti-democratic siege that marked the beginning of his government also included pressure from the bourgeoisie voiced by the mainstream media. In eight months, the government managed to pacify the relationship with the market through positive economic results and the political skill of Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, who managed to reach a consensus in approving the tax reform. But even in the face of these important victories, is it possible to say that the anti-democratic siege of the Lula government has been overcome? Which dangers remain in the way of South American integration and the construction of progressive hegemony in a country still divided and facing a very unstable and challenging geopolitical scenario. This article proposes initial reflections on these decisive questions for the future of democracy in Brazil.
