This study aims to construct homogeneous precipitation and temperature series for the period 1981-2015, for the study and characterization of the semiarid intertropical region of Brazil. Data from 61 weather stations allowed the generation of 29 homogeneous temperature and precipitation series using statistical and correlation techniques. Precipitations presented high temporal and spatial heterogeneity with a dry and a wet season, as well as rainfall between October-April in the South area and between January-June in the North. Regarding temperature, despite its low variability, the wide spatial coverage and limited data availability of the series did not allow a clear identification of groups of stations, as the analysis discriminated isolated stations. The construction of homogeneous climatic series has been a significant step forward the spatial characterization of this tropical semiarid region, which can also be employed as a base scenario for the development of climate studies and water resource management.
