En estas páginas no haré consideraciones técnicas resultantes de un diseño experimental sobre la lectoescritura como factor de éxito o fracaso escolar. Aventuraré algunas opiniones sobre lo que impulsa a nuestro país a preocuparse por este asunto y el estado en que se encuentra la reflexión; trataré de relativizar y problematizar la relación que se establece entre lectura y rendimiento escolar, no para generar pesimismo en relación con nuestra acción sino para contribuir a valorarla adecuadamente y a fijar sus metas.
