In the early twenty-first century we have witnessed the progress of a large emerging scientific and technological system, nanotechnologies, seen by its promoters as the new technological revolution. The essence of this system lies in the manipulation of matter at the atomic and molecular level, which makes these advances esoteric for most of the non-specialized publics. This leads us to ask how to cope with developments that we cannot see or feel, that few understand but are changing our lives? The way society gets involved in their construction is critical to how people will react to these new technologies. In this paper we compare the social construction of nanotechnologies in the United States, Spain and Mexico, to try to understand the path of these advances in each of these countries.
