It´s important that variations of the thoracic sympathetic nervous system are described and the health science professionals have full knowledge of the histological characterization and associated clinical implications. In this document, international publications on the subject of the last decade were compiled, and an analysis of the repercussions was carried out on some surgical techniques, such as sympathotectomy, sympathicotomy and ramicotomy.
As well, in the same way, the characterization of these anatomical variations made it possible to formulate hypotheses that could explain surgical failures, like a persistent hyperhidrosis or inadequate responses to it, such as compensatory hyperhidrosis.
On the other hand, it was possible to make an approach to a series of clinical situations, in which of the common denominator was the intense pain, so knowing the way which is transmitted to central nervous system most frequently and the possible variations, allows to act upon, and thus provide better life quality for patients with upper abdominal pain disorders.
