Los sistemas de clasificación de revistas y productos académicos impuestos por Colciencias han impulsado múltiples conversaciones, algunas de ellas de profunda belleza conceptual. Una de estas conversaciones gira alrededor de la idea según la cual darle un rol privilegiado a las revistas en los sistemas de medición va en detrimento de la calidad académica de la investigación. Dicha idea surge del supuesto de que los libros, y no los artículos, son los espacios donde se construye verdadera teoría, “las grandes ideas”, y que quienes usamos los artículos como medio primordial de comunicación somos, de alguna manera, intelectuales de segundo nivel. Desde esta visión, se considera que, de un lado, están los verdaderos pensadores, aquellos que escriben libros, y, del otro, se encuentran las hormigas obreras, los cargadores de ladrillos de la academia, quienes en “articulitos” simplemente establecen precedentes empíricos de poco vuelo conceptual.
