Genesis of the bond between culture and violence

El mito fundamental acuñado por el psicoanálisis freudiano sobre los orígenes de la cultura parte de una violencia originaria: toda la familia humana debe su génesis a un crimen fundador. Apartándose de toda la tradición filosófica dominante en occidente, Freud supone un estado de naturaleza de guerra o anarquía originaria durante la cual "el hombre es un lobo para el hombre". Lejos de renunciar a este estado de "insociable sociabilidad" los humanos realizan un pacto de coexistencia  regulador de una violencia fundamental por otra violencia institucionalizada incapaz de desterrar ese "rasgo indestructible de la naturaleza humana que siempre le seguirá". Este escrito intenta reconstruir este modelo de análisis cultural del psicoanálisis desarrollando las consecuencias de esa ambivalencia pulsional humana frente a la Ley. La insistencia fundamental del presente artículo reside en demostrar que las culturas que no asumen estas prohibiciones básicas de la civilización -el incesto y el parricidio- están condenadas a repetirlo.

The fundamental myth invented by Freudian psychoanalysis on the origin of culture starts from a primordial act of violence: the entire human family owes its origin to a founding crime. Diverging from the entire dominant to western philosophical tradition, Freud postulates a state of nature at war or in a primordial anarchy in which man is a wolf for man. Far from giving up this state of "unsociable sociability", humans make a pact of coexistence that regulates a foundational violence through another institutionalized violence, incapable of proscribing this indestructible facet of human nature that shall always continue. This paper attempts to reconstruct this psychoanalytic model of cultural analysis developing the consequences of this ambivalence of the human drives with regard to the law. The main purpose of this essay is to demonstrate that cultures that do not assume the basic prohibitions of civilization -those of incest and parricide- are bound to repeat them.
