Se estudian 755 casos de carcinoma gástrico tratados en el Hospital de San Juan de Dios, de Bogotá, de 1953 a 1960, se anota el estado avanzado de la enfermedad en el momento de consulta; parece que la incidencia es alta; si se compara con otras publicaciones, además ha ido en aumento; se confirma la mayor frecuencia en hombres con notable predominio en éstos de los 40 a los 60 años de vida; se llama la atención sobre los cuatro síntomas principales, dolor, anorexia, vómito y pérdida de peso, y se hace hincapié en la alta mortalidad operatoria. 1. Es necesario insistir en las campañas que hagan factible el diagnóstico precoz del carcinoma gástrico. 2. Se debe hacer una mejor selección del paciente quirúrgico. 3. El parasitismo intestinal no debe ser diagnosticado definitivo en nuestro medio, ante un paciente con dolor epigástrico, o anorexia o vómito o pérdida de peso. 4. No se encontró relación entre el carcinoma gástrico y el grupo sanguíneo. 5. El servicio social debe organizar un mejor control de los pacientes operados.
