Timo cervical aberrante

La escasez de referencias en la literatura médica sobre la presencia de tejido tímico, normal o patológico, en la región cervical, nos ha llevado a presentar dos casos clínicos, en los cuales se hizo este hallazgo. Para entender mejor la razón de su presencia, hacemos un breve recuento embriológico sobre el origen y descenso del timo. Según Patten, el tejido del timo puede originarse de la tercera o cuarta bolsas faríngeas o de ambas. El originado de la cuarta bolsa, puede faltar o ser totalmente rudimentario. Estos esbozos aparecen alrededor de la .sexta semana, como evaginaciones ventrales de las terceras bolsas faríngeas.
