Resección traumática de los cornetes

El caso que nos ocupa, por las extrañas y curiosas alteraciones anatómicas que se produjeron con ocasión a un traumatismo, justitifican esta publicación. Se trata del señor Carlos Duarte -45 años- empleado de la Contraloría General de la Nación, quien sufrió un accidente automoviliario al ser arrollado y lanzado contra un andén. Como lesiones aparentes a inmediatas se observaban contusiones en los miembros inferiores, fractura de la pierna derecha y hemorragia nasal. En la cara y en el cráneo no se observaba ninguna herida, erosión o contusión. Cuando el paciente salió de su estado de shock al uso de su estado consciente, en lugar de quejarse de la fractura de su pierna se quejaba de intenso dolor en la región facial y con especialidad del lado derecho. Al poco tiempo se inició una fetidez de la nariz acompañada de una secreción purulenta abundante y de un síndrome de obstrucción nasal. No hubo durante este tiempo fenómenos inflamatorios de la cara. Fue sometido a un intenso y prolongado tratamiento con antibióticos. Al cabo de dos meses continuaba con la fetidez y supuración de la nariz. Pensaron los médicos que lo atendían que se trataba de una sinusitis y le ordenaron una radiografía de los senos paranasales.
