Empeñados en la tarea de crear métodos para el estudio múltiple del proceso que sufre el virus de la fiebre amarilla en los artrópodos llegamos al convencimiento de que un solo insecto, tal como un mosquito, no podía ser triturado en un mortero ordinario sin perder gran parte del material, sobre todo siendo pequeña la cantidad del líquido agregado, y esto nos hizo ver la falta de un mortero de pequeñas dimensiones en que pudiera molerse un insecto en muy poco fluido sin desperdiciar nada. Aun mas, pensábamos que si un mortero así pudiera utilizarse también como tubo de centrifuga se obviaría la necesidad de trasvasar la solución.
