Anemia esplénica hemolítica de origen palúdico: Consideraciones sobre esplenomegalia e indicaciones de la esplenectomía

Falta demostrar de una manera científica cuales son las causas que han producido las alteraciones de la función normal hemolítica del bazo. Hay algunos factores que permiten pensar en la hipótesis que tiene bastantes probabilidades en su favor de que sean las toxinas de los hematozoarios de Laveran las responsables. Así, se encuentra en todos estos enfermos las reinfecciones palúdicas, en su pasado patológico; se sabe que el órgano más afectado en esta enfermedad es el bazo, se sabe que existe cierta inmunidad para el paludismo en los nativos de las regiones en donde el paludismo es endémico.
