Tumores de células de hurthle del tiroides

Se estudiaron 20 casos de neoplasias de células de Hurthle del tiroides diagnosticados entre Enero 1 de 1970 y Diciembre 31 de 1985, en el departamento de Patología del Instituto Nacional de Cancerología INC. Se clasificaron 7 como carcinomas y 13 como adenomas. La incidencia fue del 4.16% de todas las neoplasias tiroideas y 1.8% para los carcinomas. Hubo predominio en mujeres; los carcinomas predominaron en la sexta década y los adenomas en la quinta. La punción biopsia aspirativa permite identificar la lesión; pero su carácter benigno o maligno solo se puede determinar con el estudio completo de la pieza quirúrgica que incluya un mínimo de 8 cortes. No hubo diferencias macroscópicas importantes entre los carcinomas y los adenomas. Todos los carcinomas presentaron invasión capsular, y en cinco se observe además invasión vascular. Cinco pacientes con carcinoma fallecieron por enfermedad metastásica, y su sobrevida fue de 4.8 años. El seguimiento para los pacientes con adenoma fue de 8.8 años y evolucionaron satisfactoriamente.
