A conversation with professor Luis Alberto Escobar Restrepo
El profesor Luis Alberto Escobar es ingeniero administrativo de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Sede Medellín. Después de trabajar en la industria textil emigró a Estados Unidos para realizar sus estudios de posgrado en estadística, país que lo acogió y le brindó grandes posibilidades para realizar una excelente labor como docente y como investigador en el área de estadística industrial. Como miembro de la Sociedad Norteamericana de Estadística ha cumplido con una valiosa labor de socialización de dicha disciplina. La Escuela de Estadística de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Sede Medellín ha tenido el honor de contar con su siempre generoso apoyo, muestra de su compromiso con el país y con la Universidad. Su extraordinaria hoja de vida puede consultarse en el Cvlac de Colciencias donde hay más de treinta publicaciones de su autoría en prestigiosas revistas técnicas a nivel mundial.
Professor Luis Alberto Escobar is a managing engineer graduate from the National University of Colombia, Medelln. After working for some time in the textile industry, he traveled to the United States, where he would obtain his Ph.D. in statistics. This is the country that welcomed him, and would give him the opportunity to do his excellent work as a teacher and as a researcher in the area of industrial statistics. He is a member of the American Statistical Society, where he has played an important role in the socialization of this science in the society, at dierent levels. Our School of Statistics, at the National University of Colombia, Medelln, has always had the honor of having his generous support, proof of his commitment to our country and to our university. His extraordinary resume is apparent when one takes a look at his Cvlac, in COLCIENCIAS, where one can nd more than thirty publications in prestigious journals, worldwide.
