PARTICIPACIÓN DE ESTUDIANTES DE LA ESCUELA SECUNDARIA EN LA INVESTIGACIÓN Y DIFUSIÓN DE LA NANOTECNOLOGÍA

PARTICIPATION OF HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENTS IN NANOTECHNOLOGY RESEARCH AND DIFFUSION

Con el objetivo de motivar los estudiantes de la escuela secundaria para estudiar en una carrera universitaria y proveerles una iniciación científica sólida, la Vice-Rectoría de Investigaciones de la UNESP – Universidad Estatal de São Paulo, ha concedido tres (03) becas del Programa Institucional de Iniciación Científica – “PIBIC Junior”. En 2016, fueron solicitadas tres becas más, las cuales podrán apoyar la participación de nuevos estudiantes. Se trata de un proyecto que cuenta con la colaboración entre la UNESP, el IFSP - Instituto Federal de São Paulo y la Escuela Estatal “Felicio Tarabay”. Este proyecto es apoyado por actividades de la Red Internacional NANODYF, que tiene como objetivo la formación en y divulgación de nanociencia y nanotecnología. Las actividades de los estudiantes consisten en el estudio de libros y artículos científicos y la realización de investigaciones bajo la orientación de los autores, la participación en eventos científicos como el ETIC - Encuentro Toledo de Iniciación Científica y las visitas al IFSP. A partir de esa preparación, los estudiantes presentarán seminarios y conferencias para el resto de los estudiantes de la escuela, con el objetivo de contribuir con la difusión de las investigaciones y las aplicaciones relacionadas con la nanotecnología. Además de los estudiantes que reciben becas, hay un número apreciable de interesados que participan como voluntarios. En este trabajo se investigó el interés y la motivación de los estudiantes para participar en las acciones del proyecto en la escuela secundaria. Creemos que acciones como el desarrollo de este proyecto pueden contribuir en gran medida a la formación de ciudadanos conscientes de los avances tecnológicos actuales, poseedores de buenas perspectivas de futuro y excelentes candidatos las carreras científicas.

With the aim of motivating high school students to study at the university level and to provide a solid scientific initiation, the Vice-Rectory of Research of UNESP - State University of São Paulo, has granted three (03) scholarships of the Institutional Program for Scientific Initiation - "PIBIC Junior". In 2016, a proposal to obtain three additional scholarships has been submitted. This would support the participation of new students. The project involves a collaboration between UNESP, IFSP - Federal Institute of São Paulo and the State School "Felicio Tarabay". It is supplemented by the activities of the NANODYF International Network, which aims at the training and dissemination of nanoscience and nanotechnology. The activities of the students consist of the study of textbooks and scientific articles and the development of research activities under the mentorship of the authors, the participation in scientific events such as the ETIC - Toledo Meeting of Scientific Initiation, and visits to the IFSP. After the training, the students will present seminars and conferences to the rest of the students at the school, with the aim of contributing to the diffusion of research and applications related to nanotechnology. In addition to the students receiving the scholarships, there is a significant number of interested students who act as volunteers. In this work the interest and motivation of the students to participate in the actions of the project at the secondary school are investigated. We believe that actions such as this project may contribute greatly to the formation of citizens who are aware of current technological advances, holders of good prospects and excellent candidates for scientific careers.
