Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The text fulfills the bibliographic requirements with the indicated form and style according to the author’s guidelines and is sent according to the Submission Form.
  • The manuscript guarantees an anonymous review.

  • Suggest 5 possible reviewers with their respective name, affiliation and email. Add this information in the box below in “Comments for the Editor”. If wanted, mention any possible reviewers with conflict of interest that you do not want to reviewer your maniscript.

  • Send the Unique submission format letter to racbiocol_fcbog@unal.edu.co
  • Indicate if the ethical rules have been followed with samplings that required the approval of a committee or entity in charge of supervising the research project. Do not use names, initials or the clinical history number of patients. When animal experimentation is performed the fulfillment of institutional guidelines and national laws must be specified. Preferably include date and number of resolutions.

    For manuscripts that require sending specimens to biological collections, it is a requirement to indicate the number of collection and collector data, as well as the collection and specimens consulted. In the case of frozen tissue deposited in collections, as well as DNA sequences deposited in databases, the accession number must also be included. 

  • It has been verified through a checklist that the document fulfills all the elements according to the guidelines of the journal. Download Checklist.

Author Guidelines

Authors should submit the manuscript through the journal's web page according to the Submission Form and the author guidelines. Once the submission is done authors must send unique letter format to email racbiocol_fcbog@unal.edu.co, this model letter includes authorship statement, conflict of interest statment and license agreement.

If you have been notified by the Section Editor that your manuscript may be taken into consideration for publication, please send the new version of your manuscript according to guidelines and instructions form the Response to Editor.

Section Policies

Scientific article

Scientific documents whose content must include an abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, disussion, acknoledgements and references. Five figures and/or tables are accepted, and up to 50 recent references in the article's topic.

Revision article

Most of them will be required by the Editorial Commitee according to the author's expertise. It is an article that mentions the state of the art information of a particular topic including the authors contribution and criteria on the subject.

The maximum number of pages is 30 with douple space. It must have at least 50 relevant and up to date references.

Reflection articles

They are documents in which authors expose a determined position on a particular topic, and base their arguments on relevant and up to date references. There must be 30 to 50 references. 

Short note

They are concise and critical commentaries that include a original result of a topic. it must have up to 5 pages. The text is written without subdivisions. When strictly necessary two figures or tables may be included. It must have up to 30 references.

Personal Data Processing Policy

The Journal Acta Biológica Colombiana runs under the general standards of the Habeas Data, contained in Statuary Law 1266 from 2008, for the management of information contained in the personal Databases. Names and e-mails introduced in the journal’s database are used exclusively for declared purposes and will not be available for any other purpose or person.
