El propósito fundamental de este ensayo es analizar un aspecto particular de las políticas exteriores de América Latina: las relaciones extra-regionales. En esa dirección, se intentará elucidar la existencia de modelos de política exterior distintos entre las naciones latinoamericanas, el estado general de los vínculos actuales entre Latinoamérica y Estados Unidos y el alcance de la inserción extra-hemisférica de la región. Lo anterior permitirá precisar cuánta continuidad y novedad caracteriza el comportamiento internacional de los países del área. Ello, a su turno, contribuirá a entender cómo ha evolucionado la política externa latinoamericana en los años recientes y de qué modo las elementos observables en ese frente significan una tendencia de más largo aliento ligada a transformaciones estructurales internacionales y a novedades domésticas o expresa una situación coyuntural facilitada por los cambios globales y los vaivenes internos.

The primary purpose of this paper is to analyze a particular aspect of foreign policy in Latin America: extraregional relations. In this direction, we will try to elucidate the existence of different models of foreign policy among Latin American nations, the general condition of the existing links between Latin America and the United States and the extent of extra-hemispheric integration in the region. This will specify how much continuity and novelty characterizes the international behavior of countries in the area. This, in turn, will help you understand how it has changed American foreign policy in recent years and how the observables on that front means a longer lasting trend of structural changes linked to international and domestic developments or express a temporary situation provided by global changes and internal fluctuations.
