Introducción: la capacitación en resucitación cardiopulmonar pediátrica de personal no sanitario debe considerarse como una estrategia costo-efectiva y uno de los eslabones principales en la prevención del paro cardiorrespiratorio (PCR).

Objetivo: evaluar la efectividad de una intervención educativa en resucitación cardiopulmonar (RCP) pediátrica básica en el personal docente de un instituto de primera infancia en Bogotá, Colombia.

Materiales y métodos: estudio de intervención del tipo antes y después, en el que participaron 32 docentes de una institución educativa de primera infancia. La intervención educativa fue implementada entre octubre y noviembre de 2022 en tres fases: recopilación de fundamentos teóricos, intervención mediante el desarrollo de cursos teórico-prácticos y medición del nivel de conocimiento y habilidades.

Resultados: se comprueba la significancia en tres de las siete variables estudiadas, con un valor p < 0,05 en la prueba de McNemar. Estas variables fueron la definición de la obstrucción de la vía aérea por cuerpo extraño, los signos de PCR y la relación compresión-ventilación. Catorce participantes alcanzaron el puntaje para aprobar el curso.

Conclusiones: la intervención educativa demuestra ser efectiva para educar a personal no sanitario, aunque es necesario reforzar el desarrollo de la metodología de aplicación de las estrategias de evaluación. Es necesario llegar a consensos sobre las condiciones mínimas de capacitación en RCP pediátrica.

Introduction: Training in pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation in non-health personnel should be considered a cost-effective strategy and one of the main links in the prevention of cardiorespiratory arrest.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention in basic pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for the teaching staff at an early childhood education institution in Bogotá, Colombia.

Materials and methods: A before-and-after intervention study was conducted with 32 teachers at an early childhood educational institution. The educational intervention was implemented between October and November 2022, in three phases: Compilation of theoretical foundations, intervention through the development of theoretical-practical courses, and measurement of previous knowledge and skills level.

Results: Significance is verified in three of the seven variables studied, with a p < 0.05 in the McNemar’s test. These variables were the definition of foreign-body airway obstruction, signs of cardiorespiratory arrest, and compression-to-ventilation ratio. Fourteen participants achieved a passing grade for the course.

Conclusions: The educational intervention proves to be effective for the education of non-health personnel, although the development of the methodology for applying evaluation strategies should be strengthened. It is necessary to reach a consensus on the minimum conditions for training in pediatric CPR.

Introdução: o treinamento em ressuscitação cardiopulmonar pediátrica em pessoal que não é da área da saúde deve ser considerado uma estratégia custo-efetiva e um dos principais elos na prevenção da parada cardiorrespiratória (PCR).

Objetivo: avaliar a eficácia da intervenção educacional em ressuscitação cardiopulmonar pediátrica (RCP) básica para o corpo docente de um instituto de educação infantil em Bogotá, Colômbia.

Materiais e métodos: foi realizado um estudo de intervenção do tipo antes e depois, do qual participaram 32 docentes de uma instituição de educação infantil. A intervenção educativa foi implementada entre outubro e novembro de 2022, em três fases: coleta de fundamentação teórica, intervenção através do desenvolvimento de cursos teórico-práticos e avaliação do nível de conhecimentos e competências.

Resultados: a significância é verificada em três das sete variáveis estudadas, visto que atingiram valor de p < 0,05 no teste de McNemar. Essas variáveis foram a definição de obstrução de vias aéreas por corpo estranho, sinais de PCR e relação ventilação-compressão. 14 participantes obtiveram resultados para a aprovação do curso.

Conclusões: a intervenção educativa revela-se eficaz para a formação de pessoal não sanitário, embora seja necessário reforçar o desenvolvimento da metodologia de aplicação de estratégias de avaliação. Além disso, é preciso chegar a um consenso sobre as condições mínimas de formação em RCP.
