Calidad de vida en la vejez: la constante comparación entre el pasado y el presente

Este estudio (1) etnográfico buscó comprender el significado de calidad de vida (CV) de un grupo de ancianos de bajo nivel socio-económico de la ciudad de São Paulo, Brasil. Los datos fueron recolectados por medio de observación participante y entrevista etnográfica com 12 informantes. El análisis de los datos fue realizado de acuerdo con la propuesta de SPRADLEY (1979). El significado de CV es construído mediante un proceso dinámico de comparación e interpretación de la experiencia vivida. Muestra que la CV es un fenómeno complejo referenciado a patrones culturales e históricos particulares.
This ethnographic study intends to understad the meaning of quality of life (QOL) of a group of low income aged of the city fo São Paulo, Brasil. The data were collected though participant observation by means of ethnographic interviews with 12 informants. The analysis of the data was accomplished in accordance to the proposed by SPRADLEY (1979). The meaning of QOL is constructed in a dynamic process through comparision and interpretation of lived experience. This shows that quality of life in aging is a complex phenomenon with reference in cultural and historical patterns.
