This is a didactic article aimed at first-year students of Mathematics or Engineering degrees. Its objective is to define and study dynamical properties of the Collatz transformation on the set of natural numbers, and to state the Collatz conjecture and its equivalent reformulations. Proving or disproving the Collatz Conjecture is an open problem, that is, there is no known proof that it is true or counterexample that shows it is false.
