Las Achatocarpáceas son una pequeña familia botánica, establecida hace pocos años por A. Heimerl (in Engl. Nat. Pflanzenf., ed. 2. 16-C: 176. 1934), y compuesta solamente por dos géneros muy afines: Achatocarpus Triana y Phaulothamnus A. Gray, que la mayoría de los autores han adscrito a las Fitolacáceas. Está representada en Colombia

únicamente por la especie típica de Achatocarpus.
