El Herbario Nacional de los Estados Unidos (US) posee una de las mayores colecciones de bambúes, enriquecida durante años mediante el sistema de intercambio y de viajes botánicos a diferentes partes del mundo, Durante el período junio de 1984 a junio de 1985, bajo la dirección del Dr. THOMAS R. SODERSTROM del Departamento de Botánica de Smithsonian Institution, tuve la oportunidad de revisar las colecciones de bambúes leñosos que de Colombia han hecho varios científicos y elaborar una lista que incluye el nombre del colector, el número de colección, la fecha de colección, el número de herbario, la altitud y la localidad. Se específica para los géneros Guadua y Chusquea si el espécimen es fértil (+) 0 estéril (-).
