The main purpose of this research is to establish the annual morphohistological changes in the testes of the fish Eremophilus mutisii in the río Bogotá basin in Colombia. Spent testes appear in early May, and the subsequent presence in June. July and August indicates the duration of the reproductive phase. Most fishes spawn in June and July. The spermatogenic process of E. mutisii shows that it undergoes distinct morphological changes which are of cyclic and seasonal nature. Four stages can broadly be recognised: Formation of aggregates of spermatogonia (Figs. 6 & 10-12). Formation of the spermatocytes (T). spermatids (D) and spermatozoa (Z) (Figs. 1-6 & 12). Completely mature and viable spermatozoa fill the sperm ducts (Figs. 7 & 8). Period of involution (Figs. 9-11) - the residual sperm (E) is, probably, engulfed by a phagocytic process, and clusters of primordial germ cells (C) occur at the margin of the lobules. E. mutisii greater than 15 crn in total length were mature. Their gonosomatic index exhibited seasonal variation (Table 1 & Graph 1).
