Notas sobre el género Pithecellobium Martius

La presente nota se realizó como resultado parcial de la revisión que se adelantó sobre la Sección Caulanthon Bentham del género Pithecellobium en Colombia. MOHLEMBROCK(1963), en un intento por organizar las categorías subgenéricas de Pithecellobium dio un paso de singular importancia al reunir algunos de los segregados genéricos de BRITTON &. ROSE (1928), BRITTON &. KILLIP (1936) Y KOSTERMANS (1954) entre otros; éstos, como oportunamente lo anotó NIELSEN (1981), son géneros basados en una sola característica diferencial, tal es el caso de Punjuba que se trató de separar por presentar s ernillas exaridadas e inflorescencias en grandes racimos o espigas, caracteres que son válidos para separar series de especies.
