Streptocalyx poeppigii Beer es una especie ampliamente distribuida en la Amazonia (Bolivia, Brasil, Colombia y Perú) y las Guayanas (Guyana Francesa y Suriname). En Colombia solo se había registrado para el piedemonte amazónico en el departamento del Putumayo. Colecciones recientes amplían su rango de distribución a los departamentos de Amazonas y Antioquia; las colecciones hechas en la cuenca del río Magdalena, en la Cordillera Central colombiana, en el departamento de Antioquia, constituyen el registro más septentrional de esta especie. Con este registro la especie muestra el más extenso rango de distribución dentro del género, distribución discontinua, con poblaciones aisladas por la Cordillera Oriental colombiana (disyunción transandina).
