San Andres Island is located in south-western Caribbean and is part of the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve as declared by UNESCO to guarantee a sustainable management of its coastal resources. Over there, the main economic activity is tourism based on ‘sun, sand and sea’ enjoyment. Although beach socio-ecosystem is a very important source of the islanders’ income, their beach ecosystem services (BES) have not been valuated except for a couple of common services registered by previous studies, i.e., erosion regulation and recreation and ecotourism. Here, we present the results of a survey based on a contingent valuation technique intended to estimate the proportion of beach users who are willing to pay for this service in spite of a low confidence on its governmental managers and identified stressing actions over its sand beaches.
