This paper shows how San Andrés’ urban music (archipelago of San Andrés. Providencia and Santa Catalina) constitutes a relevant musical environment linked to processes involving ethnicity negotiations. It suggests that as far as it is a cultural and discursive practice associated to new generations, particularly to the so named fifty-fifties (persons who have been born in the archipelago with one of his/her parents being a raizal while the other is a “paña”), this music has stood on a profitable position leading it to promote a local identity which is more inclusive than the classical raizality.
